Slawinski, heading into his first season as coach of the Packers, has coached teams at both the collegiate and high school level for over 12 years. Slawinski looks to change this program through implementing baseball fundamentals, but also through emphasis on responsibility both in and out of the classroom.
Largo hopes this will translate into W's in their balanced district. "With solid defense and pitching we expect to compete for the title," said Coach Slawinski.
With a core group of talented players, such as senior pitcher Spencer Ashworth, competing for the district is very possible for the Largo Packers.
Largo boasts a solid an impressive senior class filled with college prospects, such as Ashworth, Robert Clark, Austin Lowther, and Cole Phillips. This also blends in with an exciting junior class led by J.L. Monson and George Koceja. That, along with the wealth of underclassmen players, gives Largo a great blend of youth and experience.
"Our District still has some good teams like Pinellas Park," said Ashworth. "We just need to play hard and I think we can compete with them for our district."
"I'd compare our team to the KC Royals," said Ashworth. "We have good pitching and a lot of young talent around us and once we learn how to put it all together I think we will be a force in Pinellas County."
With this kind of optimism going for Largo, the Packers can now have hope for the present and the future. |
